Obviously, what Socrates describes as God-sent madness is what the Stoics describe as good passions. Stoic joy is a form of God-sent madness. Some brands of modern stoicism - “Clint Eastwood”-stoicism and “military stoicism” - is stoicism without joy. Man-made sanity.
